Wixom is presently one of
the fastest growing cities in Oakland County. The city is
located in the midst of the rapidly developing I-96
corridor, and within easy driving distance of three major
internationally recognized universities. Wixom has Ford
Motor Company; JATCO, USA; Suzuki; and Kawasaki as some of
its major corporate residents. The city is characterized by
its balanced approach to land use development and a mix of
high quality residential living with a strong, diverse
industrial base. Wixom also has the second lowest tax rate
in Oakland County – not to mention one of the finest
school districts in the state. All types of residential
housing is available including multiple-family; large lot
single-family residential, high-end suburban style housing;
and in the near future, the mixed use, neo-traditional, new
urbanism styled Wixom Village Center Area (VCA). The VCA is
intended to become Wixom’s center of activity,
incorporating institutional uses and civic spaces with mixed
use development, in a pedestrian oriented area, all based on
urban development from the colonial times to the 1940’s.
Wixom also boasts a rich historic past and a 300-acre nature
preserve (The Wixom Habitat) with walking paths and wildlife
viewing areas.
